Rhinoplasty

Brad Gandolfi, MD

Many people are uncomfortable with the look of their nose or the way it matches the rest of their face. Rhinoplasty can change the underlying structure of your nose and provide you with harmonious facial features and natural-looking results. Additionally, functional breathing concerns can be addressed at the same time as a cosmetic rhinoplasty, including the correction of deviated septums and turbinate hypertrophy. Double board-certified surgeon Dr. Gandolfi performs rhinoplasty procedures with utmost skill and artistry to help increase your confidence and restore your self-esteem.

Rhinoplasty at a Glance

  • Purpose - Refines the nasal shape and proportions for facial harmony and balance

  • Recovery - Swelling improves after 10 days; subtle changes continue to refine for up to a year
  • Results - A more balanced facial profile and improved nasal airway function
  • Benefits - Enhanced appearance, restored confidence, and improved breathing

Refining the Details That Define You

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a cosmetic surgery procedure designed to refine the shape, size, or function of the nose. Using advanced plastic surgery techniques, Dr. Brad Gandolfi reshapes the nasal bones, cartilage, and surrounding tissues to achieve a more refined, balanced appearance. In some cases, the procedure also addresses issues with the nasal septum or nasal airway, improving both aesthetics and breathing.

Refinement, Function, and Confidence

The Benefits of a Rhinoplasty

There are a number of benefits you can expect from your rhinoplasty:

  • Rhinoplasty can increase or decrease the size of your nose, creating harmony and proportion with other facial features.
  • If you are dissatisfied with the appearance of your nostrils, rhinoplasty can be performed to reshape them.
  • Rhinoplasty can alter the shape of the nose, including changes to the bridge or the nasal tip.
  • When combined with septoplasty, rhinoplasty can improve breathing and address problems caused by a deviated septum.
  • Rhinoplasty can have a positive effect on your overall facial aesthetic.

Precision, Planning, and Care

The Rhinoplasty Procedure Process Explained

Before your rhinoplasty surgery, it is only natural to have some questions about what the process entails. While the specifics may vary according to individual patient needs and expectations, here is an overview of what you can anticipate.

The Consultation

Your journey will begin with a phone call from one of our team members, during which you can discuss your medical history, your desired nose shape, and schedule your consultation. During the consultation itself, Dr. Gandolfi will perform a physical evaluation, review medical images, and talk with you about your aesthetic goals. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the process and discuss anesthesia options with Dr. Gandolfi. Consultations typically last around 30 minutes.

What Should I Do in Preparation?

Dr. Gandolfi and his team will provide you with directions to help you prepare for your surgery. These guidelines will direct you to cease smoking, pause certain medical supplements, and fast for a few hours before surgery.

What is Surgery Like?

Surgery will begin with your arrival at our surgical center, where you will receive a warm welcome from our surgical team. They will guide you to your operating suite and provide sedation or anesthesia to ensure your comfort.

In a rhinoplasty operation, incisions can be made inside the nose, called a closed rhinoplasty, resulting in no visible scarring. In other cases, it may be necessary to make an incision at the base of the nose, using the open rhinoplasty technique. Dr. Gandolfi will talk with you in advance about the type of incision required to make the necessary revisions to the underlying bone and cartilage and provide you with some guidelines about scarring.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Gandolfi may remove or reposition bones and cartilage in a number of ways, helping to change the size or shape of your nose according to your wishes. After these changes are made, Dr. Gandolfi will carefully reattach the skin and close the incision site.

Addressing Form and Function

What Conditions Does Rhinoplasty Address?

Rhinoplasty surgery can improve both cosmetic and functional concerns related to the nose’s bone and cartilage structure. Dr. Gandolfi tailors each procedure to match the patient’s anatomy, medical history, and desired outcomes.

Some of the most common aesthetic concerns treated include:

  • Nasal Hump or Irregular Bridge - Smooths or straightens the bridge of the nose by refining or building up nasal bones and cartilage for a balanced profile.
  • Bulbous or Drooping Nasal Tip - Refines the nasal tip to appear more defined, symmetrical, and lifted, improving overall facial harmony.
  • Wide or Flared Nostrils - Narrows or reshapes the nostrils for better proportion and refinement of the alar base.
  • Crooked or Asymmetric Nose - Corrects uneven nasal bones or post-injury deformities to restore balance and facial symmetry.
  • Overly Long or Short Nose - Adjusts nasal projection and rotation to achieve a natural, proportionate length that complements your facial features.
  • Flat or Low Bridge - Enhances definition by subtly augmenting the bridge with cartilage grafts or other structural techniques.
  • Wide or Overly Prominent Nose - Reduces overall width or projection to create a more delicate, refined contour.
  • Post-Traumatic or Revision Concerns - Restores both appearance and structure after trauma or previous nose surgery, blending aesthetics with functional correction.

Rhinoplasty can also address several functional concerns to improve breathing and comfort:

  • Deviated Nasal Septum - A deviated septum that obstructs airflow and causes difficulty breathing, snoring, or sinus pressure
  • Nasal Obstruction and Airway Blockage - Obstruction from collapsed nasal valves, enlarged turbinates, or internal scarring
  • Internal or External Nasal Valve Collapse - Weakened or collapsed nasal valves that impede breathing
  • Post-Traumatic Nasal Deformity - Injuries to the nasal bones or cartilage that lead to breathing problems, asymmetry, and internal scarring
  • Enlarged Turbinates (Turbinate Hypertrophy) - Turbinate reduction performed during rhinoplasty can significantly ease nasal congestion
  • Congenital or Developmental Structural Issues - Congenital nasal irregularities such as asymmetrical upper lateral cartilages or malformed septal cartilage that limit airflow.
  • Secondary or Revision Functional Problems - Revision rhinoplasty can restore the nasal framework after problems from a previous rhinoplasty surgery.

A Smooth, Supportive Recovery

What Should I Expect in Terms of Rhinoplasty Recovery?

Following your rhinoplasty, it will be crucial to take some time to rest and recover. Though you will go home the same day as your procedure, you should plan to take five to 10 days off from work. During this time, you may experience some swelling, which can be alleviated with the use of ice packs. Medications will also be available to help you manage pain and decongestion, which are common side effects that typically clear up within one to two weeks. External and internal splints are used, depending on the extent of the work that has been done.

Before you are discharged, you will receive all the necessary guidelines regarding recovery and aftercare. By adhering to these guidelines, you can minimize the visibility of your scarring and promote optimal results.

See and Feel the Difference

Rhinoplasty Results

Most patients notice an immediate improvement in their profile and nasal balance once initial swelling subsides. Over the next several weeks, swelling and minor bruising fade, allowing your new nasal shape to become more defined. Final results can take up to 12 months as the nasal bones and soft tissue fully settle.

Beyond cosmetic changes, rhinoplasty can significantly improve comfort and quality of life, enhancing airflow through the nasal passages, easing breathing, and creating natural facial symmetry. Patients often report feeling more confident, more comfortable in social settings, and more at ease with their reflection. With Dr. Gandolfi’s meticulous attention to proportion and technique, your results will appear balanced, timeless, and uniquely your own.
